ABB provides a specialized range of low-voltage motors designed for the extreme demands of the Australian mining industry. From durable cast-iron units to ultra-premium efficiency SynRM motors, these products are engineered for operational safety in both standard and hazardous areas. Buorre was commissioned to create an animation that would not only showcase the product line but also place it within the distinct, harsh environments where it operates: from deep underground tunnels to the sun-bleached surface level.
The objective was to create a visually rich narrative where product specs and environmental context work in total harmony. We aimed to show the durability of the motors in heavy-dust conditions, demonstrate the ease of retrofitting energy-efficient solutions, and visualize the seamless integration of ABB’s drives and sensors. A key goal was to ensure that 3D assets and real-world stock footage felt like a single, unified experience, reinforcing the reliability of the ABB brand.
Our process was highly collaborative, involving weekly workshops to refine the script and storyboard for a natural, logical flow.
Three environment concepts: a high-end clean studio, an ambient underground cave, and a sun-drenched surface-level mining ground. The three environments were modelled to help define the animation’s visual direction. While the studio style was chosen for the intro, the scenic mining environments were integrated into the later narrative, with textures and lighting meticulously color-corrected to match real-world Australian stock footage. This collaborative process ensured the final 3D assets tied seamlessly with the video footage to provide an authentic application context.
Technical Visuals. We used these environments to tell a technical story. In the studio, we gave time to showcase engineered parts like space heaters and metal fans. Underground, we modelled and animated a conveyor belt in a heavily dusty atmosphere to show the motors performing in hazardous conditions. On the surface level, we created a 3D-modelled mining environment specifically edited to match the Australian landscape. This scene features an outdoor container that opens to reveal the drives, showing the products in their relevant application environment while serving as a natural transition to the integrated system overview.
Visualizing the Network. The animation concludes by transitioning from the motor’s smart sensors to a map of Australia, where the motor becomes a data point in a vast network of mining sites, emphasizing ABB’s nationwide support and 24/7 operational capability.
The final result is a seamless 3D journey from raw data and studio precision to the “Tested and Trusted” reality of the mining field. The animation serves as a comprehensive sales tool that simplifies complex IEC and ANZ Ex standards while highlighting the tangible benefits of high-efficiency motor technology. It successfully communicates ABB’s scale and expertise, providing a clear visual proof of their safe, reliable, and efficient mining solutions.
