The new generation Wärtsilä 31 four-stroke engine was expected to have the highest possible level of efficiency and low maintenance and servicing costs, as well as lower noise levels and optimization of maintenance work. It was decided to seek insight and know-how from Buorre for this.
The Wärtsilä 31, designed in collaboration with Buorre and Wärtsilä, is the most fuel-efficient four-stroke engine on the market. The design enabled the engine to be significantly quieter and manufacturing costs to be significantly reduced. In addition, the design ensures optimal serviceability. Externally, the engine is stylish, strongly highlighting Wärtsilä's recognizable brand.
The engine received highly commendable recognition for both its internal and external features, winning the prestigious Fennia Prize design award and claiming a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most efficient engine. With the Wärtsilä 31 engine, Buorre and Wärtsilä demonstrated that design creates a significant competitive advantage in this field as well.
